Contemplation

I grew lazy since switching to digital, clicking away without too much thought knowing I can easily delete any shots I don't want and dodge and burn and crop and level... gone are the days of anticipating how your pictures are going to come out, of taking the time to make sure you got your shot right... I'm remembering the joy I get from photography is in the process of creating the image , composing the shot , judging the lighting.... the image itself if it comes out well, is the icing on the cake...
made it my goal this year to start taking my time and act like I'm shooting with film again ...

Portraits

One thing nice about portrait photography is you're unlikely to ever run out of subjects... each person you meet is a unique subject, we're all different , not just in looks, shapes and size but in personality and character as well. Taking the time to know your subject and see those differences I think is the first step towards a great portrait.

Quick run to the Hunter Valley

Grabbed a few bottles from our favorite winery - Tulloch Wines, great place to visit , really lovely people  at the counter too.
Window light on the left and a reading lamp bounced on a white foam core sheet on the right, wine glass in left hand, right hand holding camera ....... camera starting to tilt....

Quiet moment

How quickly they grow...my two treasures in a quiet moment together (probably discussing how to get away from dad and his camera - I keep telling them they'll thank me later !)

Reflections of yourself?

How much of yourself, your moods, your emotions, your feelings, your thoughts are reflected in the photographs you create? for the last month or so my pictures seem to have taken a more somber bent perhaps reflecting a more somber mood courtesy of the effects of the GFC....
Hmmmm.... maybe I should make myself take happy pictures... could have the inverse effect on the moods :)

Stuck in a rut

you ever get the feeling you're shooting the same picture the same way over and over again?
what do you do to get those creative juices flowing?

Landscape composition

Surfing the net the other day looking for composition guides that were a bit more than the "rule of thirds", "the golden mean" etc, etc... anyway found this set of 23 "rules" for landscape composition by one Jonannes Vloothuis thats worth a read , its actually a guide for landscape painting, but going through it you can see how it could apply equally as well to photography both when taking the shot and in post processing.

The Key

I just love black & white , you can create drama with even the most mundane of subjects.
